The 2K Hawks will be participating in the 8th annual “Walk for Kids” at the Detroit Zoo. The Rainbow Connection is a nonprofit Michigan charity that fulfills the special wishes of Michigan children with life threatening illnesses. For more information about the Rainbow Connection go to www.rainbowconnection.org. The Hawks will meet outside the front gates and enter as a team and proceed to the opening ceremonies… from there we’ll make our way around the zoo and conclude for closing ceremonies. You may stay at the zoo all day and enjoy. Eventually I am sure we will conclude the later part of the day at someone’s house for a Hawk party. Any volunteers? Beforehand we are asking that you help your son think about a way to raise money for a donation toward the walk. Last year we asked each family to try and set a goal of $50, some easily came up with that and then some; while others were a little short. We will all walk regardless, but it is important that the kids realize what they are doing is going to help other Michigan children just as the Rainbow Connection did for our own Blake Jackson many years ago. If you are new to our team most of our boys asked family members and neighbors for returnable bottles and cans, after returning them to the store they turned the proceeds into their donation. Once you have your final donations (you can give them to Jen Karpushenkoff) I will combine everyone’s and write the Rainbow Connection a check from our LHA account.
